With the onset of outdoor track and field, I want to share some things throughout the next few newsletters that I think will help all of us make the most of our outdoor seasons.
As athletes, we all have workouts we like and dislike. Workouts that are hard and some that are easier. Some workouts make us anxious and others get us excited. Some days, no matter the workout, our bodies just don’t feel up to it. Regardless of the workout and how we feel about it, the goal remains the same: maximize your opportunity.
I find the best way to do this is to attack practice. You know practice is going to be hard so you need the right mindset. You need confidence in yourself and must be ready to give all of your effort on every single rep. There is no room for less than your best and you have to be mentally ready to give that kind effort every single day and every single rep. It won’t be easy, but if you have the right mindset, it can get easier. Be ready to attack. Look at every rep as a challenge that you are going to take on and not only finish but triumph. As I like to say, be a dog. Don’t be afraid to put in the work. It is only going to make you better.
Remember: this season be relentless. When the workout gets hard, you work harder. Attack every rep and every rep WILL make you better.
Good luck this season!
