INDOOR 400 METER
Michael Norman is an American sprinter who competes in distances ranging from 100m to 400m and in both sprint relays. He runs professionally for Nike and internationally for Team USA.
In a 2020 season shortened by COVID-19, Norman set a personal and world best in the 100m with a time of 9.86 in Forth Worth, Texas. With this time, he became the 2nd person ever and the 1st American to run sub 10, 20, and 44 in the 100m, 200m and 400m respectively.
In 2019, Norman was the top competitor in his distance winning the 400m Diamond League Championship. He finished the year with a world best time of 43.45 in the 400m. He also set a personal best and world second best in the 200m with a time of 19.70.
Norman set or helped set collegiate records in every NCAA final he ran in 2018. This includes his world best time in the indoor 400 meters, the outdoor 4x400 meter relay, the outdoor 400 meters and an unofficial world record in the indoor 4×400 meter relay.
In his junior career, Norman won two gold medals at the World Junior Championships, highlighted by a championship record of 20.17 in the 200 meters.
Throughout his career, Norman has won numerous awards including the Gatorade Player of the Year awards for track and field in both 2015 and 2016 and The Bowerman, collegiate track and field’s highest honor, in 2018.
Norman graduated from the University of Southern California in May 2019 and currently competes professionally for Nike under his college coaches Quincy Watts and Caryl Smith Gilbert.
